Difference & Conversion Options for Microsoft Access MDB to ACCDB

MDB :  MDB stands for Microsoft Database File, is a file format used by MS Access. This file format is used in earlier version of MS Access ie MS Access 97-2003. It is based on Access jet database engine.

ACCDB : ACCDB is a new file format introduces in MS Access 2007. It is essentially same as MDB but incorporates some new features that are not available in earlier versions.

MBD to ACCDB File Conversion: Conversion of MBD to ACCDB depends upon the version of MS Access database. So here is the two options for conversion, one is for Access 2000, 2002, 2003 & another is for Access 97.

To Convert Access 2000, 20002, 20003 MDB into ACCDB file format: To convert MBD file of MS Access 2000, 2002 and 2003 accdb file format, first open the database using Access 2007 or 2010 and then save it in accdb file format. All steps are here that you will have to perform ..
  • Go to File-> Open
  • In the Open dialog box select the mdb file you want to convert.
  • Now click File-> Save & Publish and under “Database File Types” click Access Database.
  • In the Save As dialog box, give file name and click Save.
To convert MS Access 97 mdb to Access 2010 accdb:
  • Go to File menu of Access 2010-> Select Open option.
  • In the Open dialog box select the mdb file that you want to convert.
  • Now click Yes in the Database Enhancement dialog box.
